Not even remotely close. It's on the South-East side of what would be considered China. If you check out Google maps, it will show you. Hong Kong is closer to Taiwan than Vietnam. Keep going west and you'll pass Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, then India. Korea and Japan are much farther North towards Russia, if anything.

Hello Folks! I'm Doc Kinne, a 46 year old hearing Gay boy from Boston trying to learn ASL.

I have a tenuous tie to the Deaf community. My Mom was the Head Nurse at the NYS School for the Deaf in Rome in the 70s and early 80s. It would really be amazing if anyone here went to Rome, NY and remembered "Nurse Bonnie."  :-)

I was just a kid back then, but I interacted with the students to some degree. This would mean I would fingerspell to them and they would sign back to me, which my Mom would interpret. Then I'd fingerspell back to them and it would go on like that for awhile.

Because of that background, while I'm not good with lanugages, ASL was one of the two that I wanted to learn. We'll see how I do!

I am John from England and I am hard at hearing. Just learning how to lip read.

Have to be careful because staring can be seen as offensive. So I always explain why I am looking so intently.

I do not not have many friends as people tend to ignore me as I am hard at hearing. Crowded room scenario, everyone talking, back ground noise and all I here is a confusing set of sounds.

Guess you all know what I mean. I am sure people don'y deliberately ignore you but 'hey', thats life' I just get on and do my own thing now.,,

Hope someone just wants a chat some time.....?
